A new bike hub to encourage and support staff and students who wish to cycle to and from campus got off to a tremendous start when it launched recently.
The bike hub offers route advice, cycle safety training and weekly drop-in maintenance sessions, as well as access to the popular Velocampus Leeds bike hire scheme, which provides bike hire for up to 350 students.
The hub is located on the University's main campus at the end of the E C Stoner Building near the large covered bike storage area. It is also available to students and staff from Leeds Metropolitan University.
"We're the first city in the UK to have a Velocampus student bike hire scheme on such a large scale, and we're already giving other institutions advice on how similar initiatives could work for them," said Lisa Brannan, UTravelActive project manager.
"Now, with the bike hub, we can offer all bike users - not just those in the Velocampus hire scheme - the opportunity to build their road confidence and learn more about bike maintenance."
Velocampus is part of UTravelActive, a million-pound project funded by The Big Lottery, the two universities, NHS Leeds and Leeds City Council, in partnership with sustainable transport charity Sustrans.
