Beads used for homogenizing biological samples are available in various densities, including lower density glass and ceramic for processing easy-to-disrupt tissues, as well as steel and tungsten carbide materials to handle difficult samples. Shapes other than spheres, including coneballs, pins, and rods, optimize the homogenization process, with sizes ranging from 0.1 to 15 mm.
