A former Eli Lilly and Co. Foundation official has been named the Indiana State Museum's new interim president and chief executive officer.
The museum announced Thursday that Thomas King will immediately assume both posts.
Museum board chairman Bill Browne says King will use his interim post to develop a new vision for the museum and help find the museum's next permanent director.
The downtown Indianapolis museum has had five CEOs since 2000 — the most recent being Barry Dressel, who resigned in October after two years in the position.
State funding for the museum has fallen by more than 20 percent since 2007.
King currently runs an Indianapolis consulting firm. He previously served as president of the Eli Lilly Foundation for 10 years.
