Cultrex™ Basement Membrane Extract, a soluble basement membrane extract of the Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm (EHS) tumor, gels at 37 C to form a reconstituted basement membrane. The major components of Cultrex include laminin I, collagen IV, entactin, and heparin sulfate proteoglycan. Cultrex can be used for promotion and maintenance of a differentiated phenotype in a variety of cell cultures including epithelial cells, endothelial cells, glandular cells, neurons, and smooth muscle cells. It has been employed in angiogenesis assays, tumor cell invasive assays, and as a vehicle to augment the tumorigenicity of injected tumor cells in nude mice. Cultrex Basement Membrane Extract has a high concentration to support in vivo angiogenesis and tumorigenicity assays.
