BioFlo 110® research fermentor/bioreactor is now available with water-jacketed vessels, offering an alternative to the version that provides temperature control using heater-blankets. Both options provide precise, uniform regulation of media temperature inside the reactor vessel; water-jacketed vessels provide a more uniform vessel-wall temperature above and below media level, and their gentle control action is generally preferred for cell culture applications. Water-jacketed vessels (on left) utilize a unique conductive heater in place of the usual recirculating pump. The heater sits directly under the water-jacket for more efficient use of bench space. Pump-free design improves reliability, reduces maintenance, and eliminates a major source of leaks. Cooling is controlled by a solenoid valve, which flows cold water into the jacket space as required. Alternatively, heat-blanketed vessels are available, featuring large cutouts for easy viewing of the culture contents (shown on right). The units can be autoclaved, and are available in four sizes, 1.3 - 14 L total volume.
