The Mouse House is an enrichment device used to create an environment that encourages a wide range of natural mouse behaviors such as jumping, climbing, squeezing through holes and sleeping during daylight hours. Abnormal stereotyped behaviors are Reduced, suggesting enhancement of the well being of laboratory mice. Designed and patented by the Medical Research Council, UK, the Mouse House has a triangular shape and flat top that fits into the corner of the cage, maximizing useable floor space. The specific red color provides a secure hiding place for mice. It is made of tough polycarbonate that can be washed and autoclaved. The Mouse House is especially useful for immunodeficient and transgenic mice because of the heightened sensitivity and expense of these research models.
