Suneris unveiled a new type of wound care gel for veterinarians at a launch event in Brooklyn on Friday. The biotech company’s product, named Vetigel, is a plant-based gel capable of stopping severe bleeding in less than 12 seconds.

Vets administer the gel to a wound where the product takes on the properties of the tissue it makes contact with essentially forming a clot. Excess gel from the clot can be absorbed into body and can withstand the removal of a surplus of ointment.

The firm hopes Vetigel will help vets become better equipped to act quickly in various surgical produces like biopsies and dental extractions.

Suneris plans on making Vetigel available for veterinarians in the U.S. and U.K. later this summer. The company is working on getting approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for potential applications with humans.

The CEO of Suneris Joe Landolina gave a TED Talk last November discussing his invention. You can watch below to learn more about how Vetigel was made.
