A health care information technology firm has announced it will move its corporate headquarters from New York's Long Island to Kansas City, where it hopes to create 520 new jobs within five years.
Netsmart Technologies serves customers in the mental health field. Its chief executive officer is Michael Valentine, who left Kansas City-based medical software firm Cerner Corp. last year to take over at Netsmart.
The Kansas City Star reports (http://bit.ly/v044yA) that Netsmart has more than 18,000 client organizations. The company's goal is to create 130 jobs at first, then add nearly 400.
Valentine has continued living in the Kansas City area while serving as Netsmart CEO. He said the move represents an expansion for Netsmart, which will continue to have offices in New York, Chicago and elsewhere.
