Two Michigan women are getting $3 million each as part of an agreement by two subsidiaries of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson stemming from allegedly illegal promotion of the epilepsy drug Topamax for psychiatric uses.
The Justice Department announced the agreement last month. The Detroit Free Press on Saturday reports that whistleblowers getting the money include 39-year-old Angela Maher of Walled Lake and 52-year-old Anastasia Savka-Klovski of Chelsea.
The pair, who worked for one of the subsidiaries, also will receive a yet-undetermined amount from state Medicaid plans.
The overall $81 million settlement resolves lawsuits brought under the False Claims Act, in which whistleblowers can sue.
