Dialysis services company DaVita Inc. said Friday it received a subpoena from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which wants documents about its financial relationship with its doctors.
DaVita said the office of inspector general wants documents related to financial relationships with physicians and joint ventures, among others items. The agency wants documents dating as far back as Jan. 1, 2005. DaVita said it received the subpoena on May 28 from the agency's Dallas office.
The company said it plans to meet with government representatives to discuss the subpoena and will comply with the investigation. DaVita said it is not aware of any proceedings against it.
DaVita said the subject matter of the new subpoenas overlaps with an investigation that started in March 2005. DaVita turned over documents to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri in December, and said it has not heard any details about that investigation since then.
