President Obama held a press conference today revealing new details surrounding the Precision Medicine initiative he announced during the State of The Union. The president’s proposal had a heavy emphasis on harnessing data to manufacture drugs and treatments uniquely customized for individual patients.

According to The New York Times, part of President Obama’s plan includes allocating more money to government organizations like the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for investigating how genes can induce certain types of cancer as well as request more funding for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which will work on regulations for technology that can be used to analyze DNA.

The total cost of the President’s multi-tiered program is $215 million. It will be part one part of the Obama administration’s fiscal budget plan for 2016.
