Google Unveils New Name, Mission for Life Sciences Division
Google posted a video on Tuesday December 7 touting a new name and mission for the conglomerate’s life sciences division.
The new name is Verily, a 13th century Middle English term meaning “truth” or “certainty,” according to Stat News.
Biologist Andy Conrad, the CEO of Verily, told Stat News the new title is aspirational adding, “Only through the truth are we going to defeat Mother Nature.”
He continued saying that Verily’s mission signifies a shift from conventional medical technologies to a more proactive, preventative strategy for combating diseases.
This division of Google is working on a slew of health science projects like pint-sized glucose monitors, pills for detecting cancer, as well as a baseline study of genetics and molecular analysis to discern what it really means to be “healthy.”
