Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality in the United States. As early diagnosis is critical, interest in measurement of CVD biomarkers has increased dramatically. CVD biomarker discovery research has focused on arterial plaque related disease as conditions are prevalent, chronic and progressive and can be measured by soluble biomarkers. Thus we developed an assay, utilizing Luminex® xMAP® technology, that includes characteristic analytes for every cardiac disease stage. After rigorous assay validation, we tested serum and plasma samples from patients with and without diagnosed CVD, and found that many of the CVD biomarkers were significantly elevated in CVD patients, indicating the utility of the assay panels.
