ORANGE COUNTY Calif. (October 27, 2024) Beckman
Coulter's Particle Characterization Business Center announces a new
feature of its LS 13 320 analysis software that allows geologists,
sedimentologists and civil engineers to present their data in
Folk-Ward Phi Notation. The software, which runs on the LS 13
320 Laser Diffraction Particle Characterization System, will be on
display at the Geological Society of America annual meeting
convening October 31 in Denver, Colorado.
Britt Argow, professor of Geosciences at Wellesley College and
an LS 13 320 user, said, "The Folk-Ward Phi notation has three
advantages: it is easier to read; it gives the best graphical
representation of naturally occurring sediment-size distributions;
and it is standard in the sedimentology literature." The need
for this feature was identified by a close collaboration between
the Beckman Coulter Particle Characterization Group and its
geosciences user base.
"Laser Diffraction offers many advantages over such traditional
measurement techniques as sieves and sedimentation," said Matthew
Rhyner, PhD, Beckman Coulter technical marketing manager.
"Being faster and automated, it can provide significant time
savings and make it even easier for these customers to collect
meaningful data using our instrument."
"We're excited to be displaying the new software features at
this year's GSA conference," said Elsa Burgess, director of
Commercial Operations for the Beckman Coulter Particle
Characterization Business Center. "Meeting directly with
geologists and discussing the LS 13 320 particle analysis system
and the new software features presents a great opportunity to share
with them how this can benefit their work."
About Beckman Coulter's Particle Characterization
Business Center
The Particle Characterization Business Center is based in Miami,
Florida. The group develops, manufactures and markets
products that are used to study, analyze, and quantify particles of
many types. The group serves customers as diverse as cell
biologists and cement manufacturers. Serving particle
customers since 1960, the group specializes in the Coulter
Principle, laser diffraction, dynamic light scattering, zeta
potential determination, and BET analysis to understand all aspects
of particulate samples. For more information, visit www.coultercounter.com.
